KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is willing to extend the rental period for the first batch of tenants of Rumah Transit 1Malaysia (RT1M) Pinggiran Bukit Jalil here till the end of the year, said its minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

He said the two-year rental period for the first batch numbering 162 tenants was due to expire on March 31.

The RT1M is an initiative for newly-wedded couples earning a monthly household income of RM3,000 and below. The rental is very low so as not to burden them.

Noh said that so far, the ministry had received appeals from all the tenants to extend the rental period.

“We give an assurance on the extension of the rental period until the end of the year pending a new policy which will be announced later,” he told a press conference after meeting residents of the housing scheme last night.

Also present was his deputy, Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.

Noh added that the rental rate during the extension period would not be raised and would remain at RM250 a month. — Bernama
