KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 ― The fate of all the team of 13 Malaysian climbers stranded on Gunung Loser in Aceh since five days ago due to extreme bad weather is still unknown until now.

The trapped Malaysian climbers included one person who suffered hypothermia.

Managing director of Global Communication Centre (GCC) Malaysia, Mustaqim Mustaza told Bernama that GCC had not received further information as communications between the search and rescue team and the communication centre at Jalur Kedah Base Camp on the mountain was still cut off.

A total of 12 people are reported stranded at the Bipak Kaleng camp at an altitude of 2,972 metres while the leader of the climbing team, Khairil Aslan Ab Rasid is trapped at an elevation of 3,404 metres.

GCC is the coordinator for the search and rescue operation.

Khairil is said to be at a higher altitude after he braved a storm to get a telephone signal and he could not descent due to the worsening weather with temperatures reaching one degree celcius.

The search and rescue team from Badan SAR Nasional (Basarnas) was also forced to use the road to climb up the mountain because helicopters could not be deployed due to bad weather.
