KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — Police have arrested the son of Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and nine others over an attempt to attack a federal lawmaker in the Parliament compound yesterday.

The arrests were confirmed by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singh, who also said one woman surrendered over the incident.

“All those arrested will be investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting,” he said in a statement.

He also urged members of the public with evidence or information regarding the attempted attack on Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad to come forward.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday said the authorities viewed the incident gravely.

A group claiming to be from the Pasir Salak Umno division yesterday sought to accost Khalid as he tried to enter the Parliament building, but security personnel managed to prevent this.

Tajuddin is the MP for Pasir Salak. The police later identified Tajuddin's son as among those in the incident that was recorded on video.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar this morning gave those involved until 2pm to surrender.

Tajuddin and Khalid have been engaged in exchanges since the former referred to DAP MP Theresa Kok as a “woman with a Kok” in the Dewan Rakyat.

Khalid called Tajuddin “sial” or damned in the ensuing argument, for which the latter has threatened to sue.
