KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 — Former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has pledged that he will not sugar-coat his answers and tell the truth when the police question him for an allegedly seditious tweet.
Zaid said he takes courage from jailed de facto Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, whom he said reminded the public that “only courage scares the bad guys in this world”.
“The police have kindly agreed to see me for questioning at Bukit Aman on Wednesday 16 November at around 11am. I will be careful with my answers, but as my friends should know, when the police question someone he or she is bound by law to answer them truthfully.
“I will be truthful and I will be candid. If I think there was a cover-up I will say so,” Zaid wrote in his blog today.
On Friday, the Police Cyber Investigation Response Centre was directed to investigate Zaid for accusing the prime minister and attorney-general of being “crooked”.
Zaid wrote the message shortly before a hearing of his application for a judicial review of Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali’s decision not to take action in two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations.
The former law practitioner said a lawyer must be able to differentiate between “a proper exercise of discretion and a cover-up.
“I will explain why judges should not just pluck principles from previous cases to justify their findings — they must also have the capacity to see what’s happening in the real world, and determine if justice can be done to those who appear before them,” he said.
The High Court here dismissed last Friday three leave applications for a judicial review to challenge Apandi’s decision to close investigations on the RM2.6 billion and SRC International fund transfers to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal accounts.
The leave applications were filed by Zaid, former Batu Kawan Umno vice head Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan and the Malaysian Bar.
