KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31- Elizabeth Wong has hit back at Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai for blaming the state government for the current water disruption, claiming that contaminated water from the MCA president’s own constituency had almost affected Selangor’s own water supply.

Wong, who is the Selangor state executive councillor in charge for tourism, consumer affairs and environment was responding to Liow, who had said that the Selangor government should must be held responsible for water disruptions as all dams in the state were under their control.

“I cannot comprehend why Liow is talking about dams. Our supply in at Semenyih dam is healthy at 67.05 per cent. While most states in Peninsular had water problems during El Nino this year, Selangor water supply was good,” she told Malay Mail Online.

“I also want to point out that on October 7 we had to stop water from Semantan, Pahang from reaching Selangor.

“Our team camped in Pahang and together with SPAN, found the culprit which discharged effluent containing large amounts of Benzyl Alcohol in Bentong — the constituency of Liow. I suggest Liow look into this matter in Bentong as a priority,” Wong added.

She also defended the state government’s decision to stop operations of the Semenyih Treatment Plant last Sunday and on Friday due to hazardous contaminants from Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

“It was the right decision considering our lab analysis found 4-bromodiphenyl ether — a hazardous compound,” she said.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali previously claimed the contamination to be “sabotage” by political rivals Barisan Nasional and Umno, after the problem left thousands of households in the state without supply.

The state government has lodged a police report over the matter, but Azmin has also been urged to support his allegation with evidence.
