KOTA BARU, Oct 3 — The Kelantan state government today ordered an immediate halt to logging activities in the Balah forest reserve until further notice, said State Forestry Department director Zahari Ibrahim, according to The Star.

“This decision was made to ensure peace among the orang asli and loggers who are faced with blockades put up by the orang asli,” he said, as quoted by The Star Online.

The PAS-led state government’s decision to stop logging activities has been agreed to by all parties, he added.

Blockades have been set up at Pos Tohoi-Pos Gob and Kampung Bering in Pos Pasik, about 70 kilometres from Gua Musang.

Protesters have also put up barricades at disputed logging sites to prevent lumber lorries from leaving the Balah forest.
