KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is an honest leader who has consistently practised accountability and transparency in carrying out his official duties, Umno minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said.
The same, Nazri added, cannot be said of former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“We all stand by him (Najib), I believe in him, and that he’s not capable of doing all those things that has been alleged.
“The RM2.6 billion issue for example, he has explained where the money is from and how much he used and for what purpose,” Nazri told Malay Mail Online in an interview.
“Najib is an honest leader, we know how much Najib collected, very transparent as the money was from a friendly country,” he added, saying that Saudi Arabia’s intentions were clear as the donation was done in order to see a “Muslim nation” like Malaysia continue maintaining close ties with them.
“When Dr Mahathir took Barisan Nasional to five elections, where did the money collected go to?
“How much did Dr Mahathir collect? I don’t know, but I know how much Najib collected,” Nazri added.
When asked what he believed are Najib’s greatest strengths, Nazri replied saying two factors are the reason why support for the PM is still strong: loyal friends and sheer mental fortitude.
“The mental strength Najib has, to go through all the accusations and to remain resilient, strong, it is a true testament to his will and character.
“He also has loyal friends, friends who stand by him during difficult times, and friends who are in the position of strength who support him,” Nazri added.
