KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) will be restructuring the Light Rail Transit (LRT) service routes for the Ampang and Sri Petaling lines this Sunday (July 17).

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said with the restructuring, commuters from Sentul Timur station heading to Putra Heights would no longer need to switch trains at Sri Petaling station as per the existing system.

“Prasarana wants to encourage more people to use public transport and with this improvement, the LRT service will be more convenient, comfortable and time-saving for commuters,” he told a press conference, here, today.

Azmi said the restructuring would involve an addition of 35 new six-car fully-automated trains and the direct journey would save about 10 minutes.

“Following this, the line running from Sentul Timur station to Putra Heights will be known as the Sri Petaling line while the eight stations from Ampang to Chan Sow Lin will be called the Ampang line,” he said.

The eight stations along the Ampang line are Ampang-Cahaya-Cempaka-Pandan Indah-Pandan Jaya-Maluri-Miharja-Chan Sow Lin.

Azmi said the Sri Petaling line would cover 29 stations and the 37-kilometre distance would take 65 minutes of travel time.

He said Prasarana expected an additional 130,000 passengers to the current 180,000 plying the route.

During the change in system, the entire operation of both lines will be shut down tomorrow and 70 shuttle buses will be provided to ensure commuters continue to enjoy public transport convenience during the temporary closure. — Bernama
