GEORGE TOWN, May 19 ― DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng demanded today PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang clarify if he uttered the phrase “pigs of DAP” during the Islamist party’s meeting yesterday as reported.

Lim said he was stunned to read a report by The Star newspaper today citing Hadi as saying PAS “would rather herd the cows of Umno than herd the pigs of DAP” in connection to an alleged crisis brewing in Selangor.

“I am shocked by this. Why was DAP dragged into this when we are not contesting in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections?” he said.

Lim who is also Penang chief minister said Hadi must explain if the reported quote was accurate.

He urged the PAS leader to take action against the newspaper if he was misreported.

“If he said it, it is not fair for DAP and demeaning for a Muslim to say such things to non-Muslims,” Lim added.

According to The Star report, Hadi uttered the controversial phrase during a meeting with Selangor PAS executive councillors (exco) over the upcoming by-election in the federal seat in which the PAS leader also supposedly told the elected representatives not to quit their state government posts.

The meeting was held after Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali allegedly told the PAS excos to resign if their party insists on contesting in both Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
