MALACCA, May 16 — The state government intends to make Hang Tuah’s 500km trail from Malacca to Pahang via Sungai Muar (Johor) to Sungai Pahang as a new state tourism product.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said at the moment, efforts towards realising the tourism product were still at the research phase involving a group of researchers, headed by the Historical and Patriotism Studies Institute (Iksep).

“We will do our best to realise this effort; however, it also requires the support of the relevant authorities, and not just from non-governmental organisations,” he told reporters here today.

Earlier, Idris attended the state government’s monthly gathering organised by the Malacca branch of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) in Ayer Keroh here.

Idris, in a special report by Bernama on May 9, had said Hang Tuah was not a mythical figure and Iksep chairman Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Jamil Mukmim and his team would track the trail of the legendary warrior.

In the meantime, Idris asked PTPTN borrowers who had started working to repay their loans to ensure others could benefit from it. — Bernama
