IPOH, April 27 — The management of a temple where a man had smashed idols on Sunday dismissed a social media allegation that it had declined to accept government aid to repair the damage.

Sree Muneeswarar Amman Temple Committee chairman A. Silvanathan said the committee had not refused the RM30,000 aid.

The aid was offered by State Health, Transport, National Integration, Non-Muslim Affairs and New Villages Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon when he visited the temple on Monday.

Silvanathan told a press conference yesterday that the committee accepted the money, but with conditions.

He called on the authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident.

A 29-year-old man believed to be of unsound mind had smashed the idols at the temple in Jalan Hospital at about 5pm on Sunday and then driven his car against traffic along Jalan Ghazali Jawi and crashed it onto a bus shelter.

Police arrested the man and sent him to Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan for a medical examination. — Bernama
