GUA MUSANG, Feb 3 — The District Education Office (PPD) will still apply the persuasive approach towards the 71 pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tohoi here who still failed to attend school.

Its officer Muhammad Zahari Othman said series of visits to eight villages were being arranged so that the parents would take their children’s school attendance more seriously.

“In our meeting with the pupils’ parents this morning at Pos Simpor, they expressed their intention to send their children back to school for fear that their children will fall behind in their studies,” he told reporters after the meeting at Pos Simpor, here, today.

Muhammad Zahari said they had used various methods to ease the stress of the parents who were still affected by the tragedy of the missing seven pupils of SK Tohoi last August.

He said so far, 115 out of 189 pupils attended school.

Muhammad Zahari said two pupils from Pos Simpor had moved to SK Kuala Betis while another one to a school outside Kelantan.

In August last year, seven pupils of SK Tohoi ran away from the school’s hostel as they feared punishment from their teacher for swimming in a river without permission. They went missing in the jungle in Pos Tohoi.

Four of them were later found dead and another was still missing. Only Norieen Yaakob, 11 and Mirsudiar Aluj, 12, were found barely alive after nearly 50 days in the jungle. — Bernama
