IPOH, Jan 27 ― The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is drawing up a strategy to upgrade the area around the Ipoh old town here to lure more tourists to the city.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man said efforts to boost tourist presence in the city was important to generate income, especially in the current economic downturn.

“The city of Ipoh will not be left out in the economic downturn. As such, we must do something to help generate economic growth.

“This city experienced the fall in the price of tin in the 1970s. But the historic value and the identity of tin ore inherited since so long, will be beneficial and has a huge potential to the tourism sector,” he said.
