GEORGE TOWN, Jan 7 — The Penang DAP government will continue with land reclamation activities to cover the costs of projects under the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) that costs RM28 billion, according to a state executive council member.

Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the reclamation activities planned would continue but its implementation would be done in phases.

He said proposals to develop the land in Seberang Perai would not be able to cover the cost of PTMP as the value of the land was much less compared to those parts of the island with high demand.

“The land owned by the state government are insufficient, and the value of land in Seberang Perai is not as expensive compared to land on the island, so the proposal to replace the reclamation activities by selling state-owned land cannot be adopted,” he told reporters here today.
