KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 ― An Umno delegate called Pakatan Harapan today a “perception terrorist coalition” on the basis that the opposition pact criticised and insulted the government.

Negri Sembilan Umno delegate Mustapha Nagoor said in a speech at the Umno general assembly here that the federal opposition worked hard to produce a “chain of lies” to cast negative perceptions against the Barisan Nasional (BN) government until such perceptions were accepted as reality.

“This opposition coalition dominated by DAP should rightfully be declared as ‘Pakatan Pengganas Persepsi’ (perception terrorist coalition),” Mustapha told delegates here.

“Why? Why ‘perception terrorist coalition’? This is because they have no mercy and only criticise and insult. Their goal is only one, to see the fall of this party,” he added.

Mustapha accused Pakatan Harapan of not having a culture of check and balance, claiming that the federal opposition pact was not interested in the truth.

“They play up their perception via all media without any censorship,” he said. “That's how evil the opposition is”.

Mustapha listed issues that he claimed was used by the opposition to create false perceptions, including a RM24 million ring tied to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) cattle farming scandal, allegations of financial misappropriation involving state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), and the RM 2.6 billion donation channeled into Najib’s personal bank accounts.

Najib has come under fire from opposition politicians and critics within his own party for the alleged mismanagement of 1MDB as well as over the use of several laws to clamp down on dissent.

Retired prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is among Najib’s fierces critics and has openly called for his one-time protege to resign from office.

The country’s sixth prime minister has defended his administration and denied using public money for personal gain.

He is said to have also offered a detailed explanation backed with facts and figures on the various controversies that have surfaced to Umno delegates in his closed-door presidential briefing Tuesday night.

A number of delegates who attended said they were satisfied with Najib’s clarifications.
