KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 ― The police are nearly done with their investigations on the demonstrators of the September 16 rally and will soon pass them to the prosecution office to decide on the next course of action, the Home Ministry said today.

In a written reply to DAP's Nga Kor Ming, the ministry said that the police were “thorough” in their investigations against those who had stirred trouble during the rally in the federal capital on Malaysia Day.

“The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have done a neat and thorough investigation to ensure legal action against those who broke the law during 'Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu' on September 16, 2015,” the ministry said, using the Malay name for the rally, which translates to the “People’s Unity Rally”.

It has also been dubbed the “Red Shirt” rally or #Merah169 due to the attire donned by many of its participants.

A total of 26 police reports were received and 15 investigation papers opened under various laws, the ministry added.

“PDRM is finishing the investigation papers and it will be forwarded to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions in the nearest date.”

Nga, who is also the Sibu MP, has asked in Parliament yesterday what legal action had been taken against police officers injured in the scuffle with the demonstrators.

The September 16 rally was held in response to the Bersih 4 rally organised by Bersih 2.0 a few days earlier, which called for electoral reforms and the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
