PETALING JAYA, Oct 15 — Pakatan Harapan will table its alternative Budget next Wednesday with a focus on narrowing Sabah and Sarawak’s economic gap to Peninsular Malaysia.

"The alternative budget will be announced by Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail... next Wednesday on October 21 2015 in Parliament," PKR's Wong Chen said.

DAP's Tony Pua, who was also present, said the focus on the two Borneo states was important as they have been “long neglected.”

"Most importantly, we will focus in bridging the economic activities' gap in Peninsular Malaysia and those in Sabah and Sarawak," Pua said.

National news agency Bernama recently quoted Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong as saying that the 2016 Budget would be people-friendly and bigger than the previous one in the quest to help low and middle-income groups cope with inflation and rising cost of living.

However, he reportedly declined to elaborate on measures that might be included in the budget that would be tabled by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on October 23.

Chua said in the Bernama report that the government set this year’s fiscal deficit target at 3.2 per cent and hoped to reduce the rate to 0.6 per cent by 2020.
