KOTA BARU, Oct 11 — Search and rescue (SAR) operations are in the midst of locating one more Orang Asli child still missing in Pos Tohoi, Gua Musang, says Kelantan police chief, Datuk Mazlan Lazim.

About 100 SAR team members were scouring the area for the child in the vicinity of Sungai Perias, he told reporters here today.

So far, two out of the seven Orang Asli children missing since Aug 23, have been found safe, namely Miksudiar Alui, 11, and Norieen Yaakob, 10, whereas Sasa Sobrie, eight, and Ika Ayel, nine, were confirmed dead.

Mazlan said the police categorised three children, namely Juvina David, seven, Haikal Yaakob, eight, and Linda Rosli, eight, as still missing despite the discovery of skeletal remains of two children as there were no DNA results.

Today, however, the skeletal remains of a child found in Sungai Perias yesterday has been confirmed as Juvina by her father, David Kuasam. 

Meanwhile, Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Ahmad Jazlan said those who alleged the government did not care about the fate of the seven Orang Asli children had malicious intent.

He said since the SAR operation was launched on Aug 23 till now, the government through its various departments and agencies, including the Department of Orang Asli never stopped caring for their welfare. — Bernama
