KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 ― Electoral reform group Bersih 2.0 ignored the rights of the Malaysian majority when it held its Bersih 4 rally in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, causing traffic congestion and fearful traders to close down, a minister in the prime minister's department said today.
Datuk Seri Azalina Othman said that less than 1 per cent of the population participated in the rally and were “abusive” when they ignored the democratic rights of the remaining 99 per cent.
“I think what transpired was really bad because all of Kuala Lumpur was jam and I realised that many traders had to do a lock down because they were so afraid.
“And it’s not fair for less than 1 per cent of society to create fear for normal Malaysians, this is really abusive. My point of view is, you talk about democratic right, what about the majority, what about our rights as the majority?” she said after launching the Malaysian Film Expo at KLCC today.
