KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Bersih 2.0 said today it has sold all of its 35,000 yellow T-shirts for the upcoming Bersih 4 rally, with almost 100 waiting at the electoral watchdog’s office now for a restock.
Bersih 2.0 secretariat officer Mandeep Singh said the T-shirts printed with the words “Bersih 4” have been selling like hotcakes as 500 people came to the polls reform group’s office in Petaling Jaya to purchase them today, while the past few days have seen an average of 200 people coming in every day.
“Each person buys no less than five T-shirts at once; some even buy 30 to 40 pieces. People are queuing up,” Mandeep told Malay Mail Online.
“Like now, people are waiting for stock. This morning before we opened our office, already people were waiting outside,” he added.
According to Mandeep, Bersih 2.0 is currently awaiting another shipment of about 6,000 T-shirts, 2,000 of which will be delivered to their offices today and another 4,000 which will be delivered tomorrow.
“Tomorrow will be the last day we’re open. Depending, if we have extra, we’ll open another day. We’re still trying to negotiate with our supplier,” he said.
He added that even the T-shirt supplier has been struggling to keep up with the massive demand for the yellow T-shirts, averaging up to 1,000 pieces sold in a single day.
With each T-shirt costing RM20, Bersih 2.0 would have raked up close to RM700,000. However, Mandeep declined to reveal their profit margins.
Bersih 2.0’s latest rally dubbed “Bersih 4” is scheduled this weekend in the city centre here, Kuching in Sarawak, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, and several other cities across the globe, to demand for institutional reforms and for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign amid the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy.
