PETALING JAYA, Aug 25 — PKR Youth said today that it will send 700 volunteers to help with crowd control at the Bersih 4 rally this weekend, which organiser, Bersih 2.0, has estimated will draw 250,000 people.

PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the youth wing’s team called SKUAD will work with the polls reform group’s safety team.

“The AMK safety team, SKUAD, will be involved with #Bersih4 team officially to ensure a peaceful and safe march during the rally,” PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad told a press conference at the party’s headquarters here today, using the Malay initials for PKR Youth.

“About 700 SKUAD members will be sent over for this rally, they have been trained and briefed on how to handle the #Bersih4 rally,” he added.

When asked how the PKR Youth safety team would handle the situation should the police use taser guns against rally-goers, Nik Nazmi said they are still discussing the matter with Bersih 2.0.

News portal Malaysiakini, citing Chinese-language paper Oriental Daily, reported yesterday that the police may include taser guns as part of their anti-riot arsenal for the upcoming rally at Kuala Lumpur this weekend.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim however denied today that taser-like stun guns will be used against potential lawbreakers at the Bersih 4 rally.

The Bersih 4 overnight rally at the city centre, as well as in Kuching in Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, is being held to push for a clean electoral system and a transparent government, among others.

Bersih 2.0 has said that the Bersih 4 rally is also to pressure Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy.
