KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Firm action will be taken against personnel of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) who take part in the Bersih 4.0 gathering planned to be held at the end of the month.

RMN chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar said the gathering could disrupt public order as it would be held in a public area and close to the National Day celebration.

“I wish to remind RMN personnel against being involved in the gathering as they will face a big problem,” he told reporters after opening a Promotion And Rank Conferment ceremony (Honourary) of the RMN Volunteer Reserve (PSSTLDM) at KD Sri Gombak today.

Seven RMN officers, including a PSSTLDM officer were promoted.

The ceremony also saw the conferring of a PSSTLDM commissioned captain

(Honourary) to HELP University deputy vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Zakaria Ahmad, who is Armed Forces Defence College academic adviser since 2006.

On the security of the nation’s territorial waters, he said, RMN, among others, had told ship operators to report emergencies directly to RMN.

“We have given RMN’s telephone numbers..we want to be informed..when it involves security, it is our responsibility,” he said.

Asked on the participation of RMN personnel in the militant group IS, Abdul Aziz said continuous monitoring were conducted by a special task force.

“Actually, I will not hesitate to hand over RMN members involved in this irresponsible activity to the authorities,” he added. — Bernama
