KOTA KINABALU, Aug 23 — The public has been advised to not join the Bersih 4.0 rally, being planned to be held from 2 am on August 29 until 4 pm the following day, as it is unlawful.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said action under Section 9 (5), Section 9(1) and Section 4(2)(c) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2013 would be taken against the organiser if they proceeded with the rally.

He said a maximum fine of RM10,000 could be imposed on the organiser or anyone participating in street protests as provided in the law.

“The organiser had sent a notice on August 19 to hold the rally, but it cannot be processed because it did not meet the stipulated condition as it was not attached with an approval letter for use of the venue from the Kota Kinabalu City Hall,” he told reporters here.

He said the matter was conveyed to the organiser on August 20.

However, he said the police were on standby for any possibilities should the organiser proceeded with the rally. — Bernama
