KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) will continue to intensify enforcement against traders selling imitation telecommunication gadgets and accessories especially at popular shopping centres.

Its minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin said enforcement would be carried out with various tactics including posing as buyers.

“We will continue the operation...but quietly...to avoid premises being closed before our raids. So I want to remind traders that our officers can come in various attires,” he told reporters at an Angkatan Koperasi Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) Aidilfitri celebration here today.

Also present was his deputy Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

KPDNKK has since last month stepped up inspection of several electronic gadget shopping centres including Low Yat and Pertama Complex.

Touching on allegations that the operation would wipe out the availability of cheap telecommunication products, Hamzah said KPDNKK’s effort was to fight the sale of fake goods which would be more beneficial to ensure consumers get quality products.

“We have agencies to determine the product standard, we conduct the raid not to burden traders but to ensure consumers get quality products,” he said. — Bernama
