Fireman electrocuted while dousing flame of a forest fire

SANDAKAN, July 20 — A fireman was killed due to electrocution while dousing the flame of a forest fire at Taman Kenari Batu 7 near here today.

PB Apolos Jeremos, 25, from Kampung Entilibon, Tongod, was among firemen from the Sandakan fire and rescue station who were despatched to the scene following a distress call at 2.59pm.

Sandakan fire and rescue station chief Haikal Jammy Ngali Abdullah said the victim was electrocuted by a wire from an illegal connection in a squatter area nearby.

Apolos, who joined the Fire and Rescue Department in September 2011, left a wife who is five-month pregnant. — Bernama
