KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s invitation to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his Hari Raya open house was a “protocol mistake” as the invitation was meant for the jailed PKR leader’s wife and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the Prime Minister’s Office said today.
“He is in jail...Azizah opp leader. Invitation base(d) on that,” Datuk Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, told Malay Mail Online in a text message.
A snapshot of the prime minister’s invitation card posted on PKR de facto leader Anwar’s Facebook page names Dr Wan Azizah, followed by Anwar’s name, as being invited to Najib’s open house in Putrajaya this Friday.
Anwar, 65, was convicted of sodomy and sentenced to five years’ jail by the Federal Court in February this year.
His health has been failing and he was warded last week at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur for an assortment of illnesses, including fluctuating blood pressure and shoulder and kidney pains.
