KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — PAS will decide after Hari Raya whether it will adopt the motion to sever ties with DAP that was approved during the Muktamar, Ulama wing chief Datuk Mahfodz Mohamed said today.

It is unclear, however, how the decision will alter ties with DAP as it has already declared the larger Pakatan Rakyat (PR) dead following the decision at the PAS annual assembly.

“And until now (the motion) has not been decided. The Syura Council has not met,” the PAS Dewan Ulama wing chief told reporters here, adding that the Syura Council will most likely meet after Hari Raya.

On June 6, PAS confirmed that it will sever ties with DAP while still remaining in Pakatan Rakyat with PKR.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali later said that the motion was not final as it still needs the advisory Syura Council’s endorsement, even though the muktamar has the authority to decide on party matters.

Today, Mahfodz reiterated that the motion has not been implemented as the religious matters would be referred to the Syura Council and would not be decided by the muktamar.

When asked if there was a possibility that the Dewan Ulama would retract the motion, Mahfodz merely smiled and said “don’t know”.

The status of PAS leaders already occupying posts in the Penang and Selangor administration under PR is also unclear following the pact’s disintegration.

Last week, The Star Online reported that the Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali will be meeting with DAP and PKR leaders to discuss the future political scene in the state.

Malay Mail Online understands that this meeting will be held tomorrow.
