KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) should show evidence on how the state investment fund’s incriminating leaked documents and emails were allegedly tampered with, DAP’s Lim Kit Siang said today.

The DAP parliamentary leader noted that ministers have suddenly become articulate on the 1MDB controversy after former PetroSaudi International (PSI) executive Xavier Andre Justo was arrested by Thai police and accused by Malaysian authorities of tampering with leaked information from 1MDB.

“What is the ‘Empire Strikes Back’ ’s response to the challenge by Sarawak Report as well as concerned and patriotic Malaysians that Najib and 1MDB should show the proof how the emails were tampered with and how it clears Najib and 1MDB of responsibility for the biggest financial scandal in the nation’s history?” Lim said in a statement.

He noted that whistleblower site Sarawak Report has insisted that regardless of how the leaked information was obtained, its content was not changed.

The Gelang Patah MP also questioned if Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the victim of the purportedly tampered information when the deputy prime minister told Umno divisional leaders that the 1MDB controversy was the “last straw that breaks the camel’s back”.

Justo, a Swiss national, was arrested by the Thai police on Monday.

He was allegedly the source of leaked documents on PetroSaudi’s US$1.2 billion joint venture with 1MDB that fell through in 2009.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Wednesday that the authorities will investigate business paper The Edge for publishing purportedly unverified news on 1MDB’s aborted joint venture with PetroSaudi after Justo’s arrest.
