SEREMBAN, May 14 ― Calls are mounting for police to arrest the man who viciously attacked  Sister Juliana Lim and Sister Marie Rose in front of Church of the Visitation last year.

The unsolved robbery cum murder is still fresh in the minds of Seremban folk who hope the killer will be caught even after being at large for almost a year.

The nuns were attacked by a snatch thief at the front gate of the church in Jalan Yam Tuan.

Sister Juliana succumbed to her injuries seven days later. Sister Marie Rose is now based in Malacca.

A jewellery shop owner, who only wanted to be known as Saroja, 45, expressed shock no one has yet to be charged with the murder.

“It has been almost a year. Are the police getting any closer to solving this case?” she asked.

Saroja urged the police to step up their efforts and make sure they get to the bottom of the case.

Another resident, Gunasegaran, 58, said police should be able to solve the case as there was losed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage of the incident.

“The CCTV recordings from the church should have provided the police with vital information on the assailant,” he said.

Parishioner Victor Samuel felt the case should be given top priority by the Seremban police and hoped they were still on the lookout for the attacker.

“They should give the same amount of    priority to this case as they do to any other murder case,” he said.

Jewellery shop employee Haleelur Rahman, 46, said Seremban residents hoped for justice to be served.

“There have been many unsolved cases in this area. If no further action is taken, it would become a norm in this community, and hopefully that does not happen,” he said.

“We just want to have peace of mind. We are very interested in the progress and the eventual outcome of this investigation.”

Another parishioner, who wanted to be identified only as Merle, 70, said the church community was still living in fear.

“We would like to know the progress of the investigation,” she said.

Seremban police chief ACP Muhd Zaki Harun could not comment in-depth on the case.

Having assumed the position only a few months ago, he said even though the investigation started before he was posted here, the probe was ongoing.

“If it is a murder case, I can assure you the case would not be closed before it is solved. We will notify the concerned parties,” he said.

“It is unfair for me to comment indepth as I was posted here a few months back with this case already open.”

Muhd Zaki said the police would look into past reports to help the investigation.
