KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — The Familia Myvi Club (FMC) may be deregistered if it was involved in the car crash on the Duke highway last weekend that killed a couple and their baby, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has said.
RoS director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah was quoted by local daily Berita Harian today as saying that if the registered motoring club had broken any laws, it would be deregistered.
“Each club and organisation has to be approved by RoS after undergoing thorough inspection with us, including the purpose and aim of starting the club.
“If the application is against the law or can disrupt public peace, it will not be approved by the RoS,” Razin was quoted saying.
However, Razin reportedly said if the fatal crash was caused by an individual, the blame would fall on the person instead of the club and appropriate action would be taken.
“If this was done by an individual, it would not be fair to the club as it is not their fault. Similar to the FMC case, we will have to wait for the police investigation before any action is taken,” he said.
The fatal crash happened in the wee hours of Saturday morning, when the victims’ Mitsubishi Pajero collided with two Perodua Myvis on the Duke highway.
The two Myvis, part of a group of six cars of the same model, were allegedly involved in an illegal race when the accident happened.
The 35-year-old female driver of the Perodua Myvi involved in the crash, however, reportedly claimed that the accident was caused by the victims, saying that the Mitsubishi Pajero had swerved into her lane and caused her to lose control of the vehicle.
The police have since called up 11 people for questioning, including witnesses, and have released both Myvi drivers on bail.
