KOTA KINABALU, April 24 — A Special Branch (SB) officer twice analysed the outcome of intercepted conversations of suspects detained during his ‘Ops Daulat’ assignment, the High Court here was told today.

Operations coordinating officer ASP Wan Kamal Rizal Wan Daud said he did so as soon as he returned to his office at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman on April 4, 2013, upon completion of his assignment in Semporna.

“I would do another study, analysis and review of all the communication interception products relayed to me by communication interception unit officer ASP Muhammad Fauzairi Jaidin,” he said.

Wan Kamal Rizal, the prosecution’s 95th witness, was testifying on the 150th day of trial of 30 individuals linked to an intrusion by Sulu gunmen at Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu, about two years ago.

The SB officer said the communication interception products he studied and analysed were on seven accused -- Anwar Salib Akhmad, Tani Lahaddahi, Abdul Majil Jubin, Basil Samiul, Abd Hadi Mawan, Norhaida Ibnahi and Datu Amir Bahar Hushin Kiram.

He said Muhammad Fauzairi supplied him the communication products in stages, either by hand or via telephone.

He explained that Muhammad Fauzairi supplied some of the communication interception products to him in document form while he was still at his office in Bukit Aman, and relayed the rest to him via telephone when he was in Semporna.

To a question by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed, Wan Kamal Rizal said the reason he conducted technical analyses on the products was to determine the extent of the accused’s involvement in the intrusion.

He also said the accused’s involvement in the skirmish at Kampung Simunul in Semporna on March 2, 2013 was also analysed, based on their telephone conversations intercepted by the police.

In the dock are 27 Filipinos and three local residents who are facing one to multiple charges of being members of a terrorist group and waging war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
