KUCHING, April 15 — The private secretary to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to facilitate investigations over RM500,000 in false claims.

The 41-year-old aide will also be held until April 20, after a magistrate here granted the MACC a remand order to further detain the aid for its investigations, according to the Borneo Post.

The application for remand was heard in camera following a request by defence counsel Wit Malang, who said his client is a “very important person”.

It is alleged that the false claims were related to some events organised for the minister.

The investigation will be conducted at MACC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement to the Borneo Post, Entulu said he was shocked that his private secretary was being investigated for false claims.

“But I am confident that he has done no wrong as my SUSK (private secretary to the ministry),” the minister said.

Entulu added that his aide was only being investigated and not yet prosecuted, and insisted that the detention and remand did not constitute an arrest.
