Slim River shrouded in thick smoke after landfill catches fire

IPOH, March 5 — More than 1.6 hectares of landfill in Kampung Penderas, Slim River, caught fire causing thick smoke to engulf the area today.

Slim River Fire and Rescue station chief Md Zin Mohd Faaidin said five firemen in two engines took about an hour to control the fire and another two hours to douse the flames.

The fire started at about 8pm, he said when contacted by Bernama.

He did not rule out the possibility of the fire triggered by the hot weather.

A fire was also reported at the landfill near the Incinerator Centre at Pulau Pangkor in Sungai Pinang Kecil today.

The fire and rescue station was alerted on the fire at about 6.40am. — Bernama
