KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — Police have thwarted four attempts by the Nigerian underworld to smuggle drugs into the country, seizing about eight kilogrammes of syabu at a courier company in Petaling Jaya on Friday and yesterday.
There were no arrests in connection with the seizure of the drug worth about RM800,000.
Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said an international syndicate masterminded by a group of Nigerians used Guangdong, China as a base to despatch the syabu to Malaysia.
“We inspected a box at the courier company on Friday about 7pm, only to find 2.5kg of syabu hidden in a rubber roller machine,” he told a media conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here today.
In a follow-up operation, Noor Rashid said another box containing bicycle accessories was inspected at the company whereby the police found a carbon paper package containing 1.9kg of syabu hidden in the sponge of the bicycle seat.
“The role of the carbon paper was to prevent detection of the drug via the scanning machine,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the third raid at the courier company about 1pm yesterday, he said the police found 2.5kg of syabu hidden in a rubber roller machine after inspecting a box.
“About four hours later, 22 small packages of syabu weighing 970 grammes were found in colour cartridges of a printing machine,” added Noor Rashid, attributing the success of the drug seizures to public tip-off and close cooperation by the courier service company. — Bernama
