Jilted lover jailed for attempting suicide by sleeping on LRT track

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — A restaurant employee who trespassed into the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station and then slept on the tracks, in an attempt to commit suicide, after being jilted by his male lover, was today sentenced to a total of six days’ jail and fined RM1,500 after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Saifulakmal Said sentenced Loh Chin Long, 22, to six days’ jail and RM1,000 fine, in default two months’ jail, for attempting to commit suicide.

Loh was also sentenced to six days’ jail and fined RM500, in default a month’s jail, for trespassing onto the LRT tracks.

However, Loh was ordered to serve both the jail sentences concurrently from the date of arrest, which was Oct 14 this year.

Low was charged with attempting to commit suicide by lying on the tracks at the Cheras LRT Station and trespassing into the LRT station at 1.50 pm last Oct 14.

According to the facts of the case, Loh was lying on the railway tracks when he was rescued by a railway official.

Earlier during mitigation, Loh’s lawyer, Muhammad Syazwan Mohd Salleh, said his client did not trespass onto the LRT tracks to commit a crime.

“He also could not control his emotion after knowing that his grandfather is also ill,” he added.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Tan Siew Ping. — Bernama
