TUMPAT, Sept 13 — An independent candidate again threw his hat into the Pengkalan Kubor race today, turning what was originally meant to be a straight fight between Umno and PAS to win over voters in this small Kelantanese town into a three-cornered fight.

As nominations closed at 10am, Umno fielded local preacher Mat Razi Mat Ali, 48, a committee member at its local branch who was formerly an assistant education officer in Tumpat, while PAS fielded 56-year-old Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, the coordinator for the Pengkalan Kubor constituency as well as the Tumpat PAS secretary.

Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 46 will be contesting the second time for the state seat.

He won a mere 65 votes during the 13th general election.
