KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — TREC Lifestyle and Entertainment Hub, which has been endorsed by the Tourism Ministry as a “designated entertainment zone,” is expected to open next year.
Located in Jalan Tun Razak, TREC, which is short for “Taste, Relish, Experience, Celebrate,” is developed by Avant City Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company between Cher Ng, Datuk Douglas Cheng and Berjaya Assets Bhd.
The RM323.6 million project is also expected to generate more than 1,800 jobs and add an estimated RM140 million to the economy annually.
“It will be the entertainment jewel of Kuala Lumpur because you can find everything under one roof,” he said at the launch of the project yesterday.
Ng said TREC’s concept was similar to Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong and Singapore’s Clarke Quay, which serves as an entertainment district.
He said the seven-acre land was chosen because of its strategic location.
“It is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and is situated opposite the Royal Selangor Golf Course,” he said.
Ng, who is also the owner of Zouk KL in Jalan Ampang, said the club would be relocated to the new location at TREC when the first phrase is completed.
“The land lease will expire on December 31. This idea of creating TREC was born when I wanted to relocate Zouk two years ago,” he said.
“I managed to get Douglas and Robin Tan (Berjaya Corporation chief executive officer) to join in creating this entertainment hub.”
Ng said Phase One of TREC would be completed in the first quarter of 2015 while the second phase will be completed in the third quarter.
“Zouk will move into its new RM38 million ‘home’ when the first phase is completed. It will take up 60,000 sq ft, the biggest club in Malaysia,” he said.
Ng said TREC would feature 77 units taken up by lifestyle and food and beverage outlets.
“Currently, 70 per cent of the lots have been booked by tenants from all over the world. We are also trying to get local tenants to join in,” he said.
