KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 — Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong was named as chairman of DAP Johor following the chapter’s election today, replacing Dr Boo Cheng Hau at the head of the state committee.
Liew earlier secured the 14th-most votes in the internal polls, earning a spot in the 15-man committee. Boo was tenth, while Penggaram assemblyman Gan Peck Cheng emerged on top.
“The outcome of the polls will only unite the party even further. I will make sure that the party is ready to meet all challenges,” Liew was quoted as saying by The Star on its website today, after thanking Boo for his service in the previous term.
Boo, who declined the offered the post of deputy chairman, said Liew needed free rein to be able to steer the party in the state.
“I will go back and have a good rest, but I will continue with my duties as Skudai assemblyman and Johor opposition leader,” Boo said in The Star’s report.
