KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1 — Four machetes and three knives believed to be disposed off by participants of an anti-government rally were found in a drain near the Dayabumi Complex by auxiliary policemen tonight.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad said the weapons were found at 9.30pm and the police were investigating the case under Section 6 of the Dangerous Weapons Act.
He said three policemen injured their hands when the protestors broke through the police barrier at Dataran Merdeka at 11pm and headed for the New Year’s Eve concert stage 30 minutes before the countdown.
The policemen were given outpatient treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, he told reporters here after the New Year’s Eve concert at Dataran Merdeka was cancelled due to the commotion.
No arrests were made so far.
Asked whether those involved in the anti-government rally will be arrested, he said the police were gathering evidence to enable action to be taken under Section 15 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“We are also investigating the bottle-throwing incident when Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal took to the stage to calm down the protestors,” he said.
Zainuddin said the police would also be looking for political leaders who were seen at the illegal assembly.
The protestors turned unruly, causing the concert attended by about 25,000 revellers to be cancelled about 30 minutes before the countdown. — Bernama
