KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — Outgoing MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today chose to see the upside of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s suggestion that party was in need of political “Viagra” to lift its spirits.

Calling it a matter of perspective, he said it was not wrong for the prime minister to say that the party has suffered from flagging morale, noting that it was clearly the case for MCA after two successive general elections that saw its political fortunes plummet.

“It depends on how you see it. I you see it in a good light, then it is good,” he said in Mandarin at a press conference after the launch of the party’s general assembly.

When asked how MCA should go about “consuming” the Viagra prescribed by Najib, Dr Chua shrugged and said he is not the right person to ask.

“You have to ask the PM. Do you know what is Viagra?” he said in trademark sarcasm.

Earlier when launching MCA’s general assembly this morning, Najib said the party needed some “political Viagra” to revive the flagging spirit among party members.

He said MCA has everything in place to make it the party of choice of the Chinese community in the country, but was sorely lacking in the will to re-establish itself as a force to be reckoned with.

“You have the men, you have the army, but the will is not there. As the saying goes, the flesh is strong but the spirit is weak,” he said when launching MCA’s general assembly here.

“We probably need to get some political Viagra to get some spirit back,” he added, drawing laughter from MCA members gathered at the San Choon Hall at Wisma MCA for the launch.

Viagra is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction.
