KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 — Malaysia has the expertise to protect cyber space security to ensure the systems of the administration and other main institutions in the country are not intruded by foreign elements said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
At the same time, the agencies responsible to protect cyber security such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Cyber Security Malaysia are continuously strengthening their defence system to protect the country’s cyber space, he said.
Ahmad Shabery admitted Malaysia was always facing the threat of cyber attacks from outside which attempt to disable the operation of an institution in the country.
“If I am at the main frame of MCMC, I could see so many attempts in place. This is like the operations room of Star Wars. Under the present leadership of these agencies, we have been able to protect the security of the cyber space so far,” he said when winding up the 2014 Supply Bill debate at Dewan Rakyat here, today.
He said even though there was no guarantee for cyber space security, each individual must take measures to protect himself from being a cyber crime victim.
Shabery said the ministry would consider introducing score card for services offered by telecommunication companies in the country.
He said this was to enable consumers can make comparison on the services offered by a certain company in terms of coverage, service rate and charges, to meet customer satisfaction.— Bernama
