NEW YORK, Feb 9 — Fashion designer Tadashi Shoji showed his latest offering of evening gowns and cocktail dresses for Fall 2018 at New York Fashion Week: The Shows yesterday.

The veteran designer said that he had paid close attention to the #MeToo movement that exposed men accused of sexual assault and harassment in fields including entertainment, politics and business, causing dozens of prominent men to quit or getting fired from high-profile posts.

He said that he chose to show a bold and sensual collection, as women do not have to apologise for showing their femininity.

“Many women start to get timid and then go ‘oh this is appropriate, this is not.’ And then, why (do) women have to think about like that? So who cared about what you wear? It’s not you. That’s not your fault,” he said.

His dresses, a red carpet darling with movie stars and celebrities all had a sexy twist, often in the form of a thigh-high slit or a sexy cutout near the bust.

He chose for bold colours such as electric pink, silver and gold in shimmering fabrics with lace embellishments. — Reuters
