ISKANDAR PUTERI, Jan 18 — Sea Life Malaysia Aquarium, which will become the latest attraction at the Legoland Malaysia Resort here, will be operational in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year.

Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd Group Chief Executive Officer, Amir Azizan, said construction works are currently being carried out to ensure the aquarium would operate on schedule.

The aquarium, spanning 2,123 square metres, is developed at a cost of RM50 million and will have 25 exhibition tanks and 11 marine habitats.

The habitats include fresh water, coast, coral reefs and sea cave, and the aquarium is located next to three landmarks — Legoland Theme Park, Legoland Water Park and Legoland Hotel.

“At Legoland, what is important is continuous investment that can attract the interest of visitors, be it local or foreign.

“Up to now, we are still getting visitors from both,” he said at the groundbreaking ceremony for Sea Life Malaysia at Legoland Malaysia Resort here, today.

The ceremony was officiated by Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee Chairman, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong. Also present was Tourism Malaysia Director-General, Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab.

According to Tee, the development of the aquarium had indicated the confidence of investors in the state’s tourism sector as well as the state government’s commitment in encouraging the development of various tourism clusters.

“Johor has many theme parks to meet the interest of tourists, be it local or foreign, and we want Johor to become a tourist holiday destination during the holiday seasons.

“Based on a report by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, in 2016, Johor was the top destination in terms of local tourists with 7.4 million visitors, and was in third place in terms of visits by foreign tourists involving 2.6 million visitors,” he said. — Bernama
