Up-and-coming destinations Malaysians are heading to this year-end hols

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — If you’re wondering where to head to next, perhaps Sapporo, Japan could be your next destination.

Japan is already a favourite among Malaysian travellers with most travellers heading to Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto. However, Sapporo has been identified as the most popular up-and-coming destination of choice for Malaysians and our neighbours down south.

Travel fare website agoda recently conducted a research on more than 16,000 respondents across 15 countries to find out which are the top growing destinations based on the highest year on year bookings growth and Sapporo came out tops for both Malaysia and Singapore.

The agoda Travel & Tech Study shows that millennial travellers opt for food and dining as their preferred travel experience. In Sapporo, a known foodie’s paradise, they get not only quality seafood but a great ski experience.

Taipei too is another popular destination, particularly among Filipinos, according to agoda’s study.

Taiwan, rich in history and vibrant culture, is fast gaining traction among Filipino travellers looking for local culture and lifestyle as their top travel experience.

Apart from lifestyle, Taipei is also a haven for delicious street food. Couple that with the decent exchange rate and you have a choice destination for travellers.

Other favourites among travellers for the year-end holidays apart from those mentioned are Taiwan’s Taichung and Seoul.

According to Andrew Edwards, Global Director for Brand and Communications at agoda, “Travellers from Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines want variety when they’re abroad, so there are a diverse group of destinations emerging as year-end holiday hot spots. 

“Taiwan and Japan are two of the most unique places in the world, boasting a hybrid of ultramodern and vibrant capital cities paired with historic and scenic landscapes. The growth of travel to these two countries has led to an increased focus at agoda on catering to these new travel experiences amongst South-east Asian travellers.”
