KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — The Canopy by Hilton hotel, the Hilton brand’s lifestyle hotel, is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2021 as part of the Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) development here.

BBCC Development Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Low Thiam Chin said the hotel would be the first in South-east Asia and managed by Hilton Worldwide.

“We have entered into a sale and purchase agreement for the sale of our 28-storey hotel tower block to Hass Holdings Sdn Bhd for RM290 million.

Hass Holdings has in turn signed a hotel management agreement with Hilton,” he told a press conference after the signing of the agreements here today.

Low said the entry of the globally renowned hotel group would further enrich BBCC’s overall development value.

He said the hotel was part of the development’s first phase, targeted to be completed in 2021, which would also include an entertainment hub comprising a concert hall and the RM1.6 billion lifestyle mall called Mitsui Shopping Park Lalaport KL.

“The development order for BBCC is actually for two hotels, so we do not mind if there is another hotel coming in.

“The completion of this entire development, consisting of phase one and two, is targeted for 2025,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hilton Senior Vice-President Development, Asia and Australasia, Guy Phillips was confident that the hotel would do well here given that it was part of a great development like the BBCC coupled with the staggering growth rate of tourist arrival and the extremely buoyant hotel market.

“The Canopy by Hilton was a new addition to the brand, launched two years ago, with only two hotels operating, worldwide.

“The first hotel is in Reykjavik, Iceland, and the second one was opened just two weeks ago in Washington, United States. In our pipeline, we have about 25 hotels under development.” he added. — Bernama
