BEIJING, April 22 — Remember last year when a teacher in Sichuan, China, made headlines around the world, after he got his tardy students to write out a complicated 58-stroke Chinese character 1,000 times?

Well, a school in Chengdu, China, might just have topped that — with what appears to be a world’s first.

According to Mashable, the University of Electronic Science and Technology has introduced a digitally-inspired punishment that befits its curriculum.

Students who turn up late for class are tasked with writing out 1,000 emojis.

At the time of writing, it’s not known the name of the teacher who came up with this written form of torture or what faculty or class in the school is affected, the website added.
