NEW YORK, Nov 16 — K-pop is a global entertainment phenomenon originating from South Korea that is characterised by a wide variety of audio-visual elements.
With more than a hundred new bands debuting each year, it’s important for bands to refresh their image and have new songs on the music charts. Music videos play a huge party in the K-pop musical genre.
So watch as BuzzFeed’s Eugene Lee Yang is transformed into a Korean boy band by becoming five different K-Pop group members through the power of make-up, hair, and wardrobe.
According to BuzzFeed, the K-pop idol group system assigns particular roles to individual members that distinguish their talents. Some of the more common roles are as:
- The Leader, a role often assigned to the eldest member in the group.
- The Maknae who essentially is the youngest member of the group, typically with a baby face and is expected to perform all the cute gestures.
- The Visual is the person considered the most attractive member in the group. This member receives the most screen time in music videos and stands in the centre for photoshoots.
- The Dancer typically stands in front and takes centre stage during group numbers.
- The Rapper usually dresses in b-boy clothing, but some are now sporting sleeker and more modern looks.
