SAN FRANCISCO, June 28 — Colouring books for adults have been hugely popular in recent years, as titles promising to calm the mind and pass the time fly off shelves. Now they take one step closer to the status of bona fide pop culture phenomenon as major names get on board.

This month, book/TV series “Game of Thrones” and “Outlander” have announced they have adult colouring books on the way, as has Marvel, which has three titles in the works.

Game of Thrones”

George RR Martin's “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series — and of course, HBO's mega-hit TV series "Game of Thrones — is to be the inspiration for a colouring book containing 45 black-and-white drawings from a host of well-known illustrators. Due out from Bantam on October 27, the book will, as the description reads, let you color in “a world where weddings are red, fire is green, and debts are paid in gold.”

Outlander”

October will also see the release of a colouring book inspired by Diana Gabaldon's “Outlander” novels and the British-American series of the same name. Like the “Game of Thrones” title, this book is from Bantam and due out October 27. According to Bustle, this one will also contain 45 original black-and-white illustrations.

Last week the Marvel comic empire revealed plans to release three comic books, beginning with titles on “Age of Ultron,” “Civil War” and “Little Marvel.” In the first of those, out in October the Avengers face off against the metallic menace Ultron in an effort to save mankind.

“Little Marvel” includes dozens of covers plus interior artwork by fan favorite Skottie Young awaiting colour, and in “Civil War,” Captain America, Iron Man and the rest of the superhero community await a wash of colour. Those two titles are to follow in February and April 2016. — AFP/Relaxnews
