KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Would you lend a hand, or a ringgit, to a beggar on the sidewalk?

Maxman.tv recently ran a social experiment, where an actor posed as a beggar on the streets of KL, holding a placard that said “Share if care,” asking for donations.

It started off badly, when a well-dressed man in a suit shoved the beggar from his spot without saying a single word.

From there, the actor encountered several people, most who ignored him and walked past.

Others, like a taxi driver and a woman, donated money and got a surprise in return, when the actor handed them their money back with an additional reward.

It is when several Nepali guards donated money and refused to take any rewards that the actor broke his cover.

When asked why they gave the actor money when they had so little themselves, one of the guards said, “Because if we help anybody, God will help us.”

The Maxman.tv team was then invited to their hostel for a chat and a peek into their lives, including how the recent earthquake in Nepal has affected them and their families.

The video has since gone viral, with over 50,000 views at the time of writing.
