NEW YORK, Sept 23 — Vintage Books is moving nine of Gabriel García Márquez’s works into digital formats with a clutch that includes “Love in the Time of Cholera,” but no “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”

Vintage, an imprint of Random House, will oversee the first-time publication of García Márquez in e-book form for US readers, with the run of texts including “Chronicle of a Death Foretold,” “Of Love and Other Demons” and “The General in His Labyrinth,” reports the New York Times blog ArtsBeat.

But there’s no deal for “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” whose English-language rights lie with competing publisher HarperCollins, though Vintage Español can publish electronically in Spanish.

It’s a prominent deal for the recently created Balcells-Wylie agency, a collaboration between beloved Spanish literary agent Carmen Balcells and New York’s Andrew Wylie; the García Márquez estate was their most notable possession and another stake in the ground for Latin American literature among an English-language readership. — AFP Relaxnews
